World map practice index

Countries to draw

Start with a bold silhouette, then work toward borders that depend on proportion, neighbors, and small coastal turns. This index is generated from the same TopoJSON source used by the game.

Choose the next challenge

Match difficulty to what you want to learn

Easy outlines have one dominant gesture: Chile is long and narrow, Egypt is compact and angular, and Italy has its boot. Medium outlines add a change of direction or a proportion that is easy to distort. Hard outlines combine islands, irregular coastlines, or few obvious anchor points. Difficulty here describes drawing from memory at world-map scale, not the political or geographic importance of a place.

The current World practice pool contains a focused first edition rather than every shape in the source file. Use the full list below as a map reference and expansion index; choose one of the highlighted picks when you want a target that is already available in the game.

Recommended progression

Twelve outlines to practice first

Work from one clear gesture toward complex coastlines and islands.

  1. 01

    Easy

    Egypt

A compact quadrilateral with a memorable Mediterranean top edge.

  2. 02

    Easy

    Chile

The extreme north-to-south proportion is the main fact to preserve.

  3. 03

    Easy

    Portugal

A narrow vertical shape with one land border and one coast.

  4. 04

    Easy

    Italy

Use the boot gesture first; refine the coast only after the angle feels right.

  5. 05

    Medium

    Saudi Arabia

Strong angular edges make scale and placement easier to judge.

  6. 06

    Medium

    South Africa

A broad southern curve balanced by a straighter northern side.

  7. 07

    Medium

    India

Anchor the peninsula, then connect it to the wider northern section.

  8. 08

    Medium

    Japan

Practice several strokes while keeping the island chain on one diagonal.

  9. 09

    Medium

    Argentina

A long taper with a wider northeast and a narrow southern finish.

  10. 10

    Hard

    Norway

The long coast rewards simplification rather than tracing every fjord.

  11. 11

    Hard

    United Kingdom

Several lobes and islands test proportion at a small map scale.

  12. 12

    Hard

    Canada

Focus on the continental mass before attempting its complex northern islands.

Why 177, not 195? The Natural Earth-derived map contains named territories, disputed areas, and Antarctica alongside sovereign states, while some very small places are absent at this map resolution. This page describes the actual game dataset instead of relabeling every feature as a country.
